Day 4, finishing of the loading and the firing of the kiln. It takes almost 16 hours to fire our kiln but the results are always amazing. The kiln will need 3 days to cool and then we will open it up and share our results. Stay tuned for more snap shots from our 'just another day at the office' collection.
The kiln came out today. Three days to cool down but it is always worth it. Here are the snap shots of fresh, hot pottery. From our 'Just another day at the office' collection.

Day 3 loading the kiln.

Today we had a very productive day in our studio. Bas finished the glazing of all the selected pottery pieces while I washed the bottoms. He then carefully loaded the pottery onto each of the kiln shelves. Shelf after shelf, the process is repeated until it was built up at least half way. Tomorrow we will finish the loading process and then the kiln will be closed up, secured and fire it up. Stay tuned for more snap shots of the process. From our' just another day at the office' collection.

Day 2, glazing the kiln.

Day 2 of glazing. Yesterday, we organized the pieces that needed to go into the kiln. Today, Bas had the opportunity to hone his skills as a potter by putting his special touch on every piece. A dip here, a little splash there and always paying attention to detail. Once the glaze dries, the bottoms will get a thorough washing before being loaded into the kiln, but that is work for tomorrow.  From our 'just another day at the office' collection.

This is what has been happening in the studio. On top of our great wheel thrown pottery we also make hand built pieces utilizing a variety of techniques. Our square plates, which are made with slump moulds, hav...e been very popular this year. Below are a snap shot of the production process as well as the finished product. They make fantastic dinner settings and your guests will want to know, where did you find them? We make many different sizes of plates from large servers, rectangular asparagus dishes, to small side plates and even square bowls! Just when you think you've seen it all. Do you like a great goblet? We make a couple of styles for your drinking pleasure. The shorter ones are great for those sunny afternoons sitting out on the deck with you favorite cool drink. More of a traditionalist? Then you will love the... feel of our taller style goblets. As you can see in the snap shots below, we also make wine coolers and pitchers to compliment those popular drinking vessels. All in a days work from our 'Just another day at the office collection'.

Platter with Handles.

Some pieces of pottery take several days to complete. Our platter-with-handles is one of those pieces that requires several steps and takes time and patience to produce. First you have to roll out a slab of clay for the shape and allow it to dry for a day. Then it is pressed by hand onto a special plaster mould to give the center of the platter its unique curved plate-like shape. It is at this time the pedestal base is attached while on the wheel. A task that requires experience and skill. It is then left to dry for several hours until rigid enough to carefully attach the hand pulled handles, and voila! The results is an incredibly beautiful, functional, and unique platter. It is the perfect gift that can be used as an exquisite table center piece that can also be used to serve just about anything. Compost pots.

Well we were busy making compost pots this past weekend. They work great with those little composting bags that can easily be tossed into your outside compost bin. The modern convenience of using a bio-degradable bag is not necessary though,... as the inside surface is fully sealed eliminating the absorption of those nasty orders. Also our lids are made to fit well, a speciality here in our lookout studio. Composting pots come in all of our glaze patterns and are designed to sit on your countertop making them convenient and an attractive addition to any kitchen. Stay tuned for pics of them being glazed and finished coming soon. From our 'just another day at the office' collection!
